

James began singing at an early age. He competed in local Music Festivals while in elementary school. He sang in the church choir as a teenager. In the late 1950's he started and was lead singer in the Rock and Roll Band The Novatones. This group performed throughout the Maritime Provinces.
During the 1960's James won the CKVL new talent award and performed professionally with the Rock and Roll Band The Vikings in the Montreal area.
In the 1980's James began singing Gospel in the Zion Baptist Church choir and with the Men's Group of that church in Truro, NS. He sings regularly at a local monthly Coffee House, hosted by the Salvation Army. He is a member of the Truro Heights Baptist Church Choir. He has also tried his hand in theatre. He was a part of the Oedipus Quartet in the play The Gospel at Colonus
